How fragile that
Space between souls,
The feeling in the
Middle of the night
Of your breath
On my skin,
A holding on
To something.
Like wispy
Tendrils of
Early morning fog,
You weave in and out
Of the spaces since
Last time I saw you.
In the unmeasured moments
Just before waking,
I bask in the knowledge
That we somehow
Share forever.
May 17
I can see it,
Rolling across the sky
From miles away,
Promising and
Intimidating
All at once.
Sheets of streaked
And ancient gray,
Sliced by lightning
Fail to reach
The parched earth.
Waiting seeds ache
In their winter slumber,
Anxious to begin
Their race to
The sun.
As thunder rumbles,
I wait too,
My eyes closed
Against the rain.
May 13
Anticipation
Survived disappointment,
Fading to weak expectation,
Lingering briefly as hope,
To finally thrive
As avoidance.
Cursory acknowledgement
Satisfies the minimal
Requirements in the minds
Of some.
Truth be told,
Every time it feels
As if the bottom
Falls out,
And I tumble
Singularly
Through the
Fallacy of
Shared space.
May 7
The field is
Bursting,
An irrational exuberance
Which is persuasive,
And contagious.
Small green shoots,
Emerge almost before
My eyes,
The saving grace
Of winter’s frigid
And severe beauty.
I, like them,
Absorb the warmth,
Breathing in the
Fragrant air,
Basking in
The fertility
Of Spring.
April 30
Your mind is
Always running,
Toward me,
Away from me,
In circles around me.
The seemingly unconnected
Shifts and resonates
Into complete pictures
And thoughts,
New, clean,
And edgy.
Evading sleep,
You patrol the deepest
Night with a vengeance
Most not only avoid,
But simply are
Ignorant of.
I sometimes wish
Your thoughts could
Meld with mine,
And what you see
Would light
My eyes.
April 25
Tucked seemingly
Randomly into closets
And cupboards
Are the pieces of
Our history.
Scraps of paper,
Photos,
The loose change
Of living in a place.
Pulled out and
Scattered on the floor,
They seem fragile,
Scant,
Sometimes foolish.
We pack into boxes
Those that survive
The careful quality control
due memorabilia.
The crevasse called
Divorce,
A midlife and
Ancient event,
Calves icebergs
Of history,
Events that
Float off in
Icy water.
Their exile
Is a comforting
Sigh
Of closure.
