Words gently tumble
Through the air,
Mingling and resonating,
Generating soulful
Connection.
I suspect they
Have wandered and morphed
Before their capture.
Avoiding page and pen,
Flirting with the uncertainty
Of their creators.
They play heartstrings
With a virtuosity
Which has survived the
cowardice of youth
To be freed by
Shared tears and joy,
Years in the making.
The web of these
Bonds stretches,
Harmonic,
A symphony
Through time.
April 6; 2 degrees, windchill -18
At some point,
Lamentations cease,
And what remains
Beyond control
Simply is.
Immersing in the
Moment rings with
It’s own beauty
And immortality.
Cold wind washes
Across the crusted snow,
The angle of the sun
Awkward in its
Springtime stance.
Leaving behind
Wishing life were
Different
Bares a peace
Admirable in
It’s permanence.
April 2
I looked for a shortcut,
The sun edging
Toward the horizon,
Cold creeping across
The dusk,
Stealthy and serious.
There was none.
Every moment and
Step needed to be measured
And lived,
Folding inside out
Until exhausted
And washed of meaning.
I reached for your hand,
Knowing that traveling
The darkened landscape
Was best,
And perhaps only,
Done in the company
Of kindred souls.
April 1; Easter
Rising before the sun,
I catch the apex of
The full moon,
Light cascading
Through the sky,
Making a promise.
The rosy glow
Of impending daylight
Mingles with
The strangely frigid air,
A winter anomaly
On this Spring marker.
I fill my lungs
With believing,
Closing my eyes
Against the angst
In the world,
And choosing to
Live in the
Light.
March 29
In real life,
As I know it,
The dots don’t always connect.
Flung across the sky,
Scattered in the field,
Their seeming randomness
Lacks pattern,
Denies substance.
I watch as you
Frantically pull
Them into place,
Lining up the stars
And dust into
Long lines
And spiraling
Curlicues,
Organized
And sequential.
What if you relinquished
Your illusion
Of control,
Letting them drift
Into rhythmic
Connections
And webs,
Finding your place
Within,
Rather than
Controlling from
Without?
March 22
Your tracks
Reveal the dance
Of your relationship,
The spirals and
Twirls in the
Night intense
And somewhat
Secret.
I watch you
In my mind’s eye,
The mystery of
Ages played out
In clear blue sky
Over the whitest snow.
I feel you living
On the edges of
My thought,
And I turn around
Slowly,
As if you would appear.
The branches lightly
Rustle,
And I wonder.
March 20
The equinox notwithstanding,
Icy pellets rattle
Across the grayness
Of the sky.
Today feels like a test,
The dangling carrot
Teasing the daylight.
So easy would it be
For life to slide back
The other way,
Darkness edging out
Light,
Plunging hearts and
Souls back into winter.
Keeping my eye toward
The western sky,
I shuffle through
The paper envelopes
Of seed,
Counting on
The universe
To be reliable,
If only just
This
Once.
March 18
Gravity pulls
The smallest rivulets
Together,
Hidden under
The layers of snow,
Moving forever
Downhill.
Layers melt,
Revealing the beginnings
Of the reborn season,
Promising the
Circle of time
Will pull us
Forward.
Your eyes share the
Deepest layer,
Youthful and
Smiling,
Carrying our
Many spring seasons
Forever.
March 12
Learn from the
Sky how to be limitless,
From the ocean how
To be deep,
From the river,
How to laugh.
In the stillness of
The woods,
I imagine fulfilling
These lessons,
Living outside
Of the expectations
And conventions
Shared so ubiquitously
There seems to be
No escape.
Run with me,
Beyond the scope
Of who everyone
Thought we
Could be.
